Emergency and Storm Tree Work: 24/7 Response Across West Michigan

October 28, 2025 6 min readBy Top Notch Tree Pros

Michigan storms do not check the calendar. Straight-line winds, ice loads, saturated soils after spring rains — they all bring trees down. When it happens to your property, every hour matters. Water gets into the structure, insurance adjusters need photos, and other limbs may still be hanging.

What to do in the first 30 minutes

Get everyone away from the tree and out from under any leaning limbs. Hanging branches (we call them widow-makers) can drop hours after the initial failure.

If there are downed wires touching the tree, treat them as live and call Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 before anyone goes near. We will not start work until the utility has secured the line.

Photograph everything from multiple angles before anything is moved. Your insurance adjuster will want clear before-pictures.

Then call us at (616) 438-5552. We answer the phone day and night.

How we respond

Our emergency crews carry rigging gear, top-handle saws, large 24- to 36-inch bar saws, tarps, and roof-protection plywood. On arrival we stabilize the situation — tarping holes in roofs, removing the most threatening limbs first — and then begin a controlled dismantle. Where possible we coordinate directly with your insurance company so the work order, photos and invoice all line up cleanly.

Why a fast response saves money

Most secondary storm damage — interior water, mold, drywall replacement, ruined insulation — happens in the 24 hours after the tree comes through the roof. Getting the tree off and a proper tarp on the same day is the single biggest factor in keeping the total claim small.
